São Paulo, September 3, 2017 — Many Brazilians enjoy the September 7th Independence Day holiday to travel for fun. Although the economic crisis has affected this behavior, recent research from Worldpay, a leader in global payments, found that almost half of Brazilians surveyed (49%) believe they will travel more for leisure in the future1. Currently, 39% of travelers claim to be travelling for leisure less than they were in 2014, before the economic crisis.
Prolonged public holidays are usually enjoyed by visiting family or meeting friends and now it can be even more relaxing, considering that Worldpay’s study revealed that 93% of travelers believe that eCommerce has made it easier to find low-cost flights. Consequently 85% of Brazilians surveyed now feel more confident about exploring new destinations when on vacation.
The economic situation has proven to be a key driver for many travelers, with 57% of respondents saying it is important to take holidays within Brazil in order to help the economy.
Even so, the payment experience is fundamental to guaranteeing the completion of a travel booking, considering that2, 47% of Brazilian respondents value the clarity of information about the payment method. Another 32% of respondents also admitted to dropping out of a booking process because of a payment error in the past year.

About the data
In June 2017, Worldpay commissioned an online survey of 3,217 Brazilian consumers, which was conducted by research house Opinium. All respondents were adults (aged 18 and over) who have booked travel or a vacation online in the past 12 months.
Also in 2015, Worldpay commissioned The Online Payment Journey study, which included an online survey of 250 Brazilian shoppers to find out what customers expect to see when booking travel online, along with a review of 25 top Brazilian travel websites to discover their current online payment experience.
