Worldpay strengthens commitment to Latin America with expansion in Argentina

Company to launch local credit and debit card payment processing for online merchants

July 24, 2017

Buenos Aires, July 24th 2017 – — Worldpay, a global leader in payments, has announced its intention to expand into Argentina, increasing its presence in one of Latin America’s largest eCommerce markets. With the proposed launch of a local acquiring license, Worldpay will be able to offer a broader range of solutions that will make easier to process secure payments in Argentina; helping to meet the increasing popularity of online shopping in the country.

The announcement is in response to a rise in online shopping in Argentina where according to an eMarketer forecast1 , eCommerce has increased exponentially in Latin America. The industry is currently estimated to be worth 102.7 billion Argentinian pesos according to Cámara Argentina de Comercio Electrónico2 and is expected to rise by a further 20% by the end of 2017.

With this move Worldpay is set to bring its extensive payments portfolio; including online gateway, acquiring, more than 300 methods of payment, anti-fraud screening, data and analytics, along with processing in more than 126 currencies; to online merchants in one of Latin America’s most exciting eCommerce markets. The new domestic license will also make it easier for online merchants to accept credit and debit card payments made in the region.

By offering all these services, multi-national companies operating in different geographies will be able to work with a single payment provider across Latin America, making it easier for them to manage sales volumes across multiple markets.

Juan D’Antiochia, General Manager for Latin America at Worldpay said: “As one of the most developed eCommerce countries in Latin America, we are delighted to announce our intention to bring local credit and debit card payment processing to Argentina as a way to contribute to the local market. Offering flexible payment solutions can help merchants increase sales and drive down the cost of running an online business across multiple markets. The move follows the recent deregulation of the payments market and we will be working closely with merchants to help them to improve the success of their business and deliver payment solutions that best suit their customers.”

Worldpay works with clients across retail, airlines, travel, digital content and video games industries globally. As part of the expansion in the region, Worldpay has also launched a local acquiring license for credit and debit card payment processing in Brazil. The move will allow them to offer online shoppers a slick and seamless checkout experience, with the same level of payment flexibility that is available in a physical store.
