Vanilla Air reaches new customers with WorldpayJapanese carrier achieves both global reach and security with Worldpay
April 21, 2017
21 April 2017 – Tokyo — Vanilla Air, the low-cost carrier owned by Japan’s biggest airline, All Nippon Airways, has selected Worldpay as its online payment provider.
Vanilla Air looked to become the first Japanese low-cost carrier (LCC) to have a major presence in Southeast Asia and sought Worldpay’s global expertise in payments to support its growth into new markets such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam and the Philippines. The carrier chose Worldpay’s payment service because of its unrivalled experience in the airline industry. Worldpay works with more than 80 of the world’s biggest airlines and has more than 25 years of experience in the industry.
By partnering with Worldpay, Vanilla Air has been able to process bookings via every popular payment method and platform in the region, including Alipay, UnionPay, Diner’s Club, Discover, and American Express (from Q2 2017). As a result, Vanilla Air has been able to penetrate new customer segments. Vanilla Air has also gained access to Worldpay’s online management and reporting tool that provides advanced monitoring and Business Intelligence capabilities. This provides Vanilla Air with a full overview of payment activity and acceptance rates for all payment methods and currencies, while also enabling the airline to find quick answers to ad-hoc queries.
To provide customers with a seamless online booking experience, Vanilla Air integrated to the Air Black Box booking platform via Worldpay. This platform makes it easy for passengers to book multi-route flight tickets with Value Alliance member airlines, and pay with a single transaction. Worldpay also provides robust fraud screening through its RiskGuardian service, which detects and prevents fraud in real-time, and has been instrumental in maximising flight bookings.
Shinji Sakurai, Finance Director at Vanilla Air said, “The East Asia carrier market is booming, but it is also highly competitive, so it’s vital that we compete for every passenger journey on each route we serve. Thanks to Worldpay, we now have a sophisticated, comprehensive and scalable payment service that enables us to target travellers in every market. It has also enabled us to increase sales and protect us from the costly headache of fraud, while its business intelligence tool gives us uniquely valuable insight so that we can continually improve our operations. As we expand across the region, Worldpay will be a vital strategic payments partner, and central to our future success.”
Lutfillo Yuldoshev, Business Development Director for Japan at Worldpay said, “We are delighted to be able to support Vanilla Air’s growth ambitions, as they continue to establish themselves as Japan’s first airline with a major presence in South East Asia. A tailored payments strategy has been instrumental to the brand’s success; by implementing some of the region’s most popular alternative payment methods, Vanilla Air has been able to tap into an entirely new customer base internationally.
“The global carrier market has never been more competitive, so it is vital that our customers can expand into new markets quickly and effectively, without spending valuable time and resources on integrating new payment methods and local currencies.”
