13th April 2017 – Sao Paolo — Worldpay, a global leader in payments is expecting a significant rise in online sales for travel agents and airlines in Brazil in the build-up to this year’s Easter celebrations.
Analysis of spending in the week’s prior to 2017’s Easter Sunday found that online travel sales are up by as much as 64% compared to the same time last year*. And as the event draws nearer, online sales are only expected to rise even further as thousands of Brazilians plot a quick getaway around the holiday.
Across the airline and travel industry, flag carriers have been the biggest winners with transactions increasing by an impressive 97% compared to the year prior. With domestic tourism on the up, it seems that more and more Brazilians are choosing to take advantage of a long weekend to celebrate the festival across their own country with friends and family alike.
But it’s not just the amount of sales being made. Worldpay’s data also shows that the average booking value is up by an almighty 31% compared to a normal week. This suggests that Brazilians are feeling more confident than ever in their spending ability and are looking to make this Easter extra special.

“Easter is a hugely important date in the Brazilian calendar, and it makes sense that people should want to be using their extra cash to meet with and share the occasion with loved ones across the country.
“The boost in holidays being booked is no doubt a sign of the confidence of the Brazilian people, likely spurred on by the legacy of last year’s Olympic and Paralympic games. Savvy businesses will now be looking to the next big date in the calendar and thinking about how they can optimise their online booking flows to create a seamless payment experience, allow people to pay the way they want and boost sales.”
