State Bank of Southern Utah was founded in 1957 with a clear mission: to be a community-focused bank that serves the financial needs of its neighbors. Headquartered in Southern Utah, the bank has grown to 17 locations across 14 different cities and towns, always maintaining its culture of local decision-making and personal service.

Implementing a sophisticated core

In the early 1990s, State Bank of Southern Utah faced a critical challenge. The bank was growing, and its core operations relied on a single, in-house programmer running a homegrown system on an IBM computer in the basement. It needed a more sophisticated, stable and scalable solution to secure its future.

In 1995, the bank's leaders chose to partner with FIS (then Systematics) to implement the FIS® HORIZON core banking system. This marked the beginning of a 30-year relationship that continues to thrive today.

Decades of innovation and partnership

Building on the FIS core, State Bank of Southern Utah has easily integrated new solutions and shared data across its applications – enabling it to expand its capabilities in response to its needs and the needs of its customers. From a real-time view into credit card activity to combat fraud to a conditional rewards system that gives customers benefits for increased use of their State Bank of Southern Utah card, the bank has given the communities it serves access to the same benefits as large financial institutions, but with a local, personal touch.
